Our farmers and suppliers

Here is some information on a few of our hard working and wonderful farmers and growers.

Champion’s Mountain Organics was an OGA certified biodynamic farm, owned and operated until just recently by Michael Champion.

We leave this here at present although Michael has very recently retired and sold the farm. We extend a huge THANK YOU to Michael for his support, advice, produce and encouragement all throughout the years FIG has been in existence.

Here are some of the Champion Organics team, including Michael and Nancy…

As well as farming his own land, Michael said “it is impossible to to grow everything that is in season on one single organic farm”, and in order to supply a robust range of produce, he represented many of the organic farmers in the Mangrove Mountain region to markets and organic stores and box suppliers. Everyone wins in this co-operative setup: just one farmer makes the trips to market, saving on petrol and freeing up valuable time that can be spent growing more delicious food.

The farms and farmers were all personally known to Michael and certified bio-dynamic and organic produce makes up 90% of the range, with the remainder guaranteed to be unsprayed and genuinely chemical free.

Some of the local farms and farmers Michael worked with and shared deliveries to the co-op with were Tuckerflora Organics, Ed and Laura Morris, Eden Fanelli, Beulah Organics, and others. Between all of them, they supplied a list of produce – vegetables, fruits, herbs – in it’s hundreds over the course of the seasons.

EDEN FANELLI, Mangrove Mountain

Eden has taken over for us where Michael left off and has big shoes to fill! He is currently growing and trialling quite a lot of produce and is to be encouraged. Welcome, Eden! We’ll keep you on your toes…

CO-OP MEMBERS

Last but certainly not least, we also have many co-op members who supply produce in varying amounts. These includes pumpkins, herbs, citrus, bananas (yes, on the Central Coast!), guava, feijoas, fingers limes, bunya nuts, avocados, and the rest. We also have some very generous members who often leave a basket or bucket of vegies, fruit, plant cuttings etc at the front door, to be taken home by others for no cost. Thank you to all of you.
